AI is Helpful but Can’t Replace Writers
AI can give you quick answers but writers bring the magic
Artificial Intelligence is said to make our lives easier and to make the process of getting things done faster and with ease.
We are used to tools such as Google and Bing to ask any question we have. From finding books to news and locations of where you want to go.
AI can be a good thing and recently, we have seen the popularity of AI take over with tools such as Chat GPT and Bard.
ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot was developed by OpenAI and launched on November 30, 2022. It enables one to get instant answers, find creative inspiration and learn something new.
Also, Bard which was recently re-branded as Gemini is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Google that provides answers to your questions and can help in your writing.
ChatGPT and Bard are great AI tools to help in the writing process but are they replacements for writers?
As a creative writer, I believe that AI is helpful but there is still a need for good old-fashioned human writers to think deeply, analyze, reflect and produce works based on the human experience that fosters a sense of connection.
AI is helpful but can’t replace writers. Here are the reasons why.
Getting Articles Quickly is Great but Personal Stories Matter

A great thing about AI is that it is packed with detailed information. For people who don’t want to have to dive too deep into Google searches, AI makes life easier as it provides concise data.
However, for myself, the beauty of writing and reading stories is that aspect of the human angle. AI can’t generate an individual’s unique and personal story.
AI can’t live your life and write about your journey which is what fascinates me most when I consume content and stories.
Personal stories and human emotions are what make our stories unique and interesting. It is also what draws us into someone’s narrative to make us inspired, enlightened or entertained.
AI can’t tell your story and we each have a unique story to tell.
News & Life Events Unfold and Bots Can’t Process What Just Happened

Another reason why AI can’t replace writers is that news events unfold spontaneously. Life happens and though AI can provide general information about what has been, it can’t go into detail about something new that has occurred.
Things that occur without prediction shape how we capture, tell and analyze stories.
Once we humans have captured what is new and have done our analysis, the bots then capture and store the data and information they received.
Whereas, it is the writers and reporters who will go on the field who will be the first to tell the story and uncover the facts, not AI that hasn’t yet processed the recent information.
Diverse Opinions Are What Make Us Think Differently

When I put information into the ChatGPT about topic ideas for creating content, it’s great to see all the different options I get.
For this, I am grateful for AI because it can enable one to be more creative. AI is therefore helpful in that way for creators.
However, when you want to take things a step further and create, it is our unique opinions that make videos, blog posts and articles interesting.
Another example would be when it pertains to women’s empowerment and feminism.
When you ask Bard for diverse opinions on feminism, what it gives you is a selective overview of what feminism means for certain groups of people.
Though the information is helpful, learning more about feminism is better in detail, when you can go more in-depth.
It is also better when one can be more specific. To know about the perspective of what feminism and gender rights are like to a young woman in Nigeria, or someone in New York or even Mexico City.
Specific experiences define and shape one’s view of women’s empowerment and feminism.
AI can’t give you opinions from diverse voices. It can give you and I the same information from research on the internet but we the writers will be the ones to give you unique opinions that put things in perspective.
Writers can make Stories more Focused and with a Unique Angle

Next, another reason why AI can’t replace writers is that what makes stories stand out is the unique angle a writer takes.
You can put a particular topic on the ChatGPT and sure, it gives you an introduction, body and conclusion.
However, the format provided is in a sort of a list and summary.
As you read through what AI has generated, you notice that something is missing.
When composing an article for a story, we are interested in more than just different summaries of a topic but we want a focus. We want a unique angle.
Others would argue that yes, ChatGPT can make it more focused. That you need to make your question more specific but there are restrictions to what can be produced.
Writers can make their stories more focused and with a better flow based on the aspect of human emotions and our personal life experiences impact the way we choose to convey a message.
Final Thoughts
What writers do is more than just produce words. We tell stories that evoke emotions that touch, enlighten and inspire.
We share unique experiences and perspectives on events that happen specifically to us or events that have just happened in the world.
AI tools like ChatGPT and Bard can give us more ideas but they can’t tell our stories in a way that will foster human connection and understanding through a shared experience.
