Creating New Habits
We all know that having good habits is needed in life. We all know that the right habits can positively affect the way that we live and function. Yet, the problem is how do we effectively form good habits in life?
First, let us start with defining what habits are? A habit is defined as an acquired behaviour pattern regularly followed until it becomes involuntary.
In that definition, we have titbits of wisdom about how a habit comes about.
If you want to start forming good habits, you should do the following.
Replace A Bad Habit with A Good One

One of the best ways to form good habits is to incorporate change. If you are finding it hard to let go of one bad habit, you must have a form of replacement.
Replace unhealthy drinks with water. Replace hours of strolling on social media with reading and meditation.
Be Consistent with the New Habit

When we defined habit, we stated that it is an acquired behaviour pattern that comes about through being done regularly. This means consistency.
Do not just say that you want to exercise this year and by February and March, your sports wear has become your nightwear. Make sure that you are consistent with establishing your new habit.
This will require intentionality. This means that you will set up a day and time to get what you want achieved. Incorporate your habits into your schedule. That way, you have no excuses. The new habit is part of the way you live.
Have A Buddy with the Same Goals

It is not always easy to establish new habits by yourself. If you are finding it difficult to motivate yourself, it is okay to admit it. The best thing for you would be to then seek out groups and the company of people who have a similar goal.
That way, you are both moving together and keeping each other accountable. Have a buddy or accountability partner on your journey to creating new habits.
Eliminate All Things that Draw You Back

It is critical that if you want to establish new habits, you need to let go of what is not serving you well. If you want to commit to having a healthy lifestyle, get rid of all junk food in your house.
If you say you want to be more productive, then make sure that you are intentional about eliminating distractions. Focus on you and less on social media, gossip, and mindless chatter.
Remember Why You Want to Change Habits
Changing habits is not easy. Some people get addicted to bad habits such as smoking or drinking. Changing such habits will not be an easy step.
That is why you must remind yourself why you want to let go off these habits. Remind yourself why you are making the decision to choose a different lifestyle.
Encourage & Reward Yourself on Your Path
As you make steps to change your habits, you must encourage yourself. You cannot wait for others to see you and then compliment you on your differences. You should compliment yourself.
Every effort and step you take forward is significant. You need to have enough value for yourself to give yourself a pat in the back. You should be proud of yourself for the progress that you make in your life. You are worth it so go ahead and treat yourself.
