“Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing, you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” — Romans 12: 2

God has helped me see myself and my path clearly. This process has involved changing the way I think about myself and my life, changing the way I speak to God, and leaving behind what is familiar to stretch myself and venture into something new.

God has renewed my mind and he can renew your mind too.

There are many ways to let God renew your mind and the first way to start is by reading your Bible more and getting to know God for yourself. Also, have a form of prayer life where you keep close communication with God and let him guide you.

Here is how to let God renew your mind.

1. Read Your Bible More For Yourself to let God Renew Your Mind

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I grew up in a Catholic home where I was baptized as a child and then received Holy Communion and Confirmation. Our family went to church on Sunday and my mother made it a habit of praying together.

I grew up knowing there is a God but I didn’t have a personal relationship with God until I became an adult. I didn’t have a personal relationship with God until I read my Bible more and understood what God says about me. When I began to understand what God says about me, I knew that his plans for me are good — a plan to prosper me and to bring me to a good future.

God wants good things for me and you too but you need to know that by reading your Bible more.

As much as it’s good to go to church and belong to a church community, don’t just stop there. Start to read the Bible more; it’s different books. Start to get to know God for yourself because when you do, you won’t let the world define you. Because when you do, that is when he is able to change you. Because when you do, that is when he is able to renew your mind.

What does God say about you?

2. Have a Form of Prayer Life to Renew Your Mind

“When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites! They love to stand up and pray in the houses of worship and on the street corners so that everyone will see them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full. But when you pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen. And your Father who sees what you do in private will reward you.” — Matthew 6:5–6.

My favorite moments with God are quiet moments when I can pray to him. My most profound moments with God have happened alone when he made himself known to me.

Praying has become a habit I cherish for many reasons. For one, praying strengthens my faith in God. Then, praying protects me. Also, praying guides me in my path. Lastly, praying allows me to surrender and rest in knowing that God’s plan is best.

If you want to renew your mind, start praying to God regularly and be honest with him. Tell God you want to get to know him more. Tell God you need his help and guidance. Tell God you want to feel his presence in your life and ask Him to make himself known to you.

A prayer life has helped me to renew my mind by encouraging and strengthening me in my faith.

Having a form of prayer life has also given me discipline because I wasn’t used to answering God’s call in the early hours of the morning. But I notice that God wakes me up at around 3 am most mornings and I no longer ignore this. When God wakes me up, I get on my knees, grab my rosary and pray. As I do this, it fills me with strength, fights off negative energy and spirits that come to attack, and sets a positive tone for my day.

You can start to have a prayer life by making it a habit to pray to God. Also, when you pray, let yourself be in conversation with God to tell him everything.

In addition to your prayer life, you should be more disciplined in praying by making time to pray whenever the spirit leads you. Pray to God as often and regularly as possible.

3. Let the Holy Spirit Guide You to Renew Your Mind

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” — Romans 8:26

My path of letting the Holy Spirit guide me has affected how I speak, who I speak to, and where I go.

My path of letting the Holy Spirit guide me has involved making difficult decisions. It has involved leaving behind what is familiar and stepping out to be somewhere I’ve never been.

Letting the Holy Spirit guide me also means listening to my intuition and letting wisdom be my guide.

We all have that form of intuition, and one way to let the Holy Spirit guide us is by listening. Sometimes, an inner knowing tells you to move, stay, wait, change, marvel, discover, reflect, and simply relax.

4. Be Open to a Different Way of Doing Things to Renew Your Mind

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”- Isaiah 43:19

Another way for you to renew your mind is to be open to a new way of doing things. We have to be willing to change our perspective because when God is going to do something new and different in your life, you can’t be so fixed on one concept and idea about how you want to do things.

When you open yourself to a new way of thinking and doing things, that is a way for you to renew your mind.

You can be open to a new way of thinking by learning something new, reimagining an old idea in a different light, and taking advice and counsel from others. That means advice and counsel from family, friends, mentors, a therapist, religious leaders, or associates.

Final Thoughts

Renewing your mind is a process of seeing things much clearer. It’s separating yourself from the world so that you can get closer to God. It’s reading his words and getting to understand how he sees you. It’s speaking to him daily through prayers. It’s letting the Holy Spirit guide you, protect you and lead you.

God is always renewing my mind and changing me to see myself and him better. So when I renew my mind, I let God take over and his presence fills everywhere and what a good thing that is.
