Focusing on your fitness goals is important but we don’t always keep up with what we say we want to do.

We say we want to be fit and healthy but don’t make the right decisions.

Maybe your goal this year was to eat healthy and you were excited in January but lately, you don’t even consider a salad but are much more interested in getting burgers and fries.

Maybe your goal was to exercise and you bought workout gear and new sneakers but after February, you’re not doing any form of exercise and your workout gear has turned to athleisure wear.

If this is you, then I understand. It’s much easier to say you want to exercise than it is to actually exercise.

If you are reading this and you want to be more disciplined to exercise regularly, here’s what you can do.

1. Find the Exercise that Works for You

One way to be more disciplined to exercise is to find exercises that work for you.

You shouldn’t have to force yourself to go into something intense if you know that’s not what will motivate you to exercise.

For myself, I’ve found so much joy and peace when I go for a walk and a jog.

Regarding my history with running and fitness, I’m not the best. I was in track for about two seconds in college.

I’m not an athlete but I’ve found that I get a lot of energy when I can go for a walk and then a slow jog. I’m not intense with it but it works for me.

What works for you?

When it comes to exercise, you don’t have to do something so intense but get your body moving. The little you can do is important.

2. Prepare to Exercise by Choosing a Day, Time and Bringing Out Your Workout Wear

Another method that has helped me when it comes to exercising is preparing myself for it.

One of the ways I prepare myself to exercise is that I choose the days out of the week to exercise. That’s usually Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Also, I get out my workout wear and mat before the day that I will exercise so that as I’m going to bed, I know I will be exercising the following day.

By preparing yourself to exercise, it makes you more focused and committed to exercising because it’s part of your plan.

3. Remind Yourself of the Benefits of Exercise

Before I exercise, I can’t say I’m always thrilled. Sometimes, I feel tired and lazy.

But when I can remind myself of the benefits of exercise and what it does for my mind, I’m much more willing to work out.

You have to remind yourself of the advantages of exercise to be disciplined with your workouts.

For myself, if I were to list out the advantages of exercise in my life, it would be that…

After I exercise, I am more energized.

After I exercise, I am more productive.

After I exercise, I’m in a better mood.

If you want to be more disciplined about exercising, you should remind yourself of what exercise does for you.

4. Mix Up Your Exercise Routine To Make Things Fun

What I’m learning so far when it comes to exercise is that when I can mix up my routine, I have fun.

When I work out, it’s my norm to stretch and go for a jog only.

However, lately, I’ve tried something new. That’s incorporating different workout videos that help me to build strength. That’s using dumbbells.

It’s good to try different workouts but be careful.

When I first tried something new, my body did not take it well. This is because my posture was off and so I strained my ankle. I was limping for four days…

Then after, my body was now getting used to doing different exercises.

A new exercise routine can be difficult in the beginning but if you continue and be careful, you’ll have some fun knowing that there is variety to your workouts.

In Conclusion

We know that exercise matters and it’s good for your overall health and wellness. Yet, doing something about exercise is where the real struggle comes in.

To be the person who doesn’t only talk about exercising but is exercising, you’ve got to be willing to put in the work.

This means you start to move your body by finding the exercises that work for you. You prepare your mind to exercise by picking a day and time to workout and also, you remind yourself of the benefits of exercise.

Lastly, mix up your exercise routine by adding more variety to what you do which can make things more fun and challenging.
