December is a month that always causes us to be in our feelings. It’s a month of celebration. A month of reflection and a month of anticipation.

Reflecting on how your year went is always necessary because it enables you to take into account what you’ve done right, what you’ve done wrong and what could be improved upon.

I believe each year has something new to teach us and as an enthusiastic student, I’m always ready to learn, though some lessons were a lot more difficult to accept than others.

Here are ten of my favourite lessons learned from 2023 for you to take with you on your journey.

Lesson 10: Choose Joy But Cry When You Need To

Happiness is in the little things. Books keep me inspired and informed. Music puts me in the best mood and a jog energizes me.

Do you know what are the little things in life that can bring you happiness?

You have to because it’s not enough to say you want to be happy but how can the little things you do daily help to provide some happiness in your life?

In addition to finding little ways to find your bliss, know that you shouldn’t avoid your emotions.

Feel what you need to feel. Crying can seem like a negative experience but it can often lead me to pursue more positive emotions.

Sometimes, we like to put on a strong face but we don’t have to. It’s okay for you to be vulnerable with yourself and release your emotions.

You are vulnerable when you can be honest about what bothers you. The pain points that keep you up at night. Start to get real with yourself because it’s needed for you to find your way back to peace.

Lesson 9: Make a Plan & Worry Less for Peace of Mind

I’m constantly learning to worry less and one of the ways for me to worry less is to have a plan.

When you have a plan for how you are going to do things that matter to you or to get to where you aspire to be in life, then it makes life a little more peaceful.

This is not to say that things will always go according to plan but planning helps you to figure out a way and path forward.

So to you out there who might be scared about what 2024 holds, all I can tell you is that you should have a plan.

You have to plan out what you want your life to be and what steps are needed to get there.

There are different ways that people make plans. Some people have vision boards and others have a planner.

I have a planner and I like to write things down. I like to plan my days and I like to journal about my thoughts but also, what I want for my future.

To help you create your plan, I have a little task for you. Get a jotter or use your notes on your phone. Put down some of the things that bring you anxiety. Next, write down the ways you can work through it.
