If New York was Her Dream
Then why was the dream shattered?
Even as she gathers memories
About classes and readings of “On the Road” and “The Scarlet Letter.”

Then, standing on the stage to perform about the plight of women
Also, facilitating sessions, engaging in discourses
What’s right and wrong with society?

New York was where she began to dream

She walked around the busy streets of Manhattan
Heels and laced-up shoes move fast through the pavement

Everyone seems so busy
Somewhere to go
Something to do
This is where I belong, she thought.
This is the dream-My dream!

Walking on Lexington Avenue.
Sitting at Barnes & Noble cafe, sipping tea and eating a sandwich before reading a book.
Fun days spent at Central Park just sitting on the grass with a friend.
Talking, reading and thinking.
New York was where she began to dream.

Morning concerts with John Legend at Rumsey Playfield, then MoMa and Shakespeare during the day.

Then heading to see Wicked on stage at night.
New York was where she began to dream but the dream had some flaws…

The lady spills coffee on her blouse during the walk to a train station where you can hardly move
Other times, dancers and performers want a donation.

There is no time for quietude here.

Then, late at night, there’s a homeless person lying on the seat opposite you

New York was her dream but before she knew it, she was packing in a red suitcase

She would make calls home because her passport is Green and her adventure would be continued with another dream.
