Nine Guaranteed Ways to Improve Your Mood

Life is not easy. We all go through ups and downs, and this inevitably affects our mood. It’s impossible for someone to be happy 24/7. However, the reality is that there are few ways that we can improve our mood.

There are daily practices that you can implement that will help to brighten your day just a little more.

Listen to Music

I often start my day with music. This is because music instantly uplifts my mood and gets me feeling energetic and bubbly to move and take on the day.

After all, it was Bob Marley that said that ‘when the music hits you, you feel no pain.’

I suggest that you have a playlist. Have songs that get you in a good mood.

I have songs for when I work out. I have songs for when I want to feel confident. Create a playlist of songs that get you happy.

Add Exercise to Your Lifestyle

I believe in the power of exercise to positively affect your mind. I say this because it is what often motivates me to get to the gym.

I don’t always want to work out, especially on the weekdays. I would much rather sleep and then get ready for work. But I know that working out helps me to be more motivated, cheerful, and focused.

Due to the benefits that I receive, I endeavour to keep going to the gym. If you are struggling with your mental health, incorporate some form of exercise because it is said to have the same effects as an anti-depressant.

Pursue Your Passions

Life is short and one of the best ways to make it worthwhile is to pursue the things that you enjoy doing.

Not only would it add meaning to your day, but it would also make you happy.

Understand where your heart is geared to. Maybe you are someone who appreciates art. Make time to have art classes or regular visits to the museum. Maybe you like to sing, go ahead, and sing at your local choir group or start practising your DJ skills.

Go ahead and pursue what you want because it will add some light to your days.

Switch Up Your Environment

You don’t have to be a world traveler to find the good in life. Sometimes, you just need to make the most of where you are by exploring your town.

Try to be in different environments and soak up a new scenery. There is a certain joy I get when I try to be in new places and experience something new.

Interact with Like-Minds or Just Nice People

The people we surround ourselves with have a great impact on our mood. In life, we might not always get a say on the type of personalities that we encounter but when you get to choose outside of family and the workplace, choose wisely.

Surround yourself with people who have similar interests and passions as you. Surround yourself with people who you can learn and grow with. Surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Simply surround yourself with genuinely nice and kind people.

Reflect on Your Blessings

When you go through challenging times in your life, happiness can seem far away. You wonder why things are not going well. You wonder why you don’t have it good like everyone else.

The truth is that even during a storm, there is still something to be grateful for. There is life, health, a family that cares for you and a roof over your head.

Take time to reflect on your little blessings. Have a happy jar of all the things that keep you grounded in gratitude. You’d be surprised how being thankful can lift you.

Seek Mental Health Support

If you are going through a very dark phase in your life, then be willing to ask for help. That is the greatest strength you’d possess, knowing that you are willing to get help.

The help could be in the form of counselling and speaking to a therapist about your challenges, so they help you in the path of working on your thoughts and mindset.

The help could be in the form of being honest with family and friends about where the pain is so that they can provide a listening ear and comfort.

Be Kind to You

When you are constantly against yourself in life, how would you expect yourself to be happy? Start being your own best friend. Start being good to you. Start complimenting yourself. Start celebrating yourself. Start speaking life and hope over your life

You are deserving of the same goodness and kindness you so freely give to others. Be kind to yourself.

Get Some Rest

There is power in having a good sleep routine. Don’t become the person that is always up trying to get some work done or fussing over your home and kids.

You need to make sure that you are dedicating enough time to your rest. When you are getting adequate rest, it makes you more likely to feel refreshed, energetic, and happier. Go and get some rest.

Final Thoughts

I believe in positivism. However, in my own life, I know that saying being positive is not enough. I’ve hit some deep lows that I have had to painfully crawl my way out of.

When I advise you on ways to improve your mood, I’m not giving you a magic formula. I’m giving you ways and habits to incorporate to get better.

I don’t just wake up happy each day. I must make an effort to work on my thoughts and be honest with myself. I must exercise. I must be an active participant in my life. I must interact and connect.

You deserve to be in a good mood, and I believe that you can do the work to get there.
