The writing journey can be daunting as you’re filled with questions about ideas, refinement, and even where to publish.

But fear not fellow wordsmith because there are a wealth of platforms, apps and AI to empower you.

You can gain inspiration for what to write about through Twitter and Reddit. Then, find your publishing haven here on Medium or Substack.

Also, organise your thoughts and goals on Notion and then finally, polish your masterpiece with Grammarly and Gemini before hitting publish.

With these tools on your desktop, your writing success story is just beginning!

Great Platforms For Writers to Publish and Monetize

Medium is a great place for a writer to start publishing their work. You can have a free account and publish or you can become a paid member and if you have a large enough reach and followership, then the platform provides you with monetisation opportunities.

For myself, I enjoy having Medium as a place to publish my work as a writer on my page or other pages on Medium.

Then, there’s Substack which lets you publish your work through newsletters.

Substack is a great platform for writers to share their thoughts and links to their work. Also, creatives can use Substack to notify others about new posts, podcasts and products.

Another reason why Substack would be good for writers is to grow your community through emails.

Also, Substack can help writers with their earnings. For those who have a great interest in your work, you can charge a fee for them to view your newsletter.

Then for those who want to have their own site, there’s WordPress. I was using WordPress when I started blogging.

You can have your site for free while having wordpress.com or you can pay to have your domain.

WordPress is a good place for you to be on and grow your community through having newsletters and site visitors.

You can sell your products on your site or you can make use of affiliate marketing to advertise other products or services.

Social Media Platforms to Get Writing Ideas From

Writer’s block can happen to anyone and when it does, there’s a way to get through it and that’s where social media platforms can help.

Twitter(X) is a great platform to get ideas on what to write about. Through Twitter, you can find trending topics in your region and that can be the motivation to start writing.

Some might have conflicted opinions about Twitter due to the aspect of verification and payment but Twitter is still a good resource for writers. It helps you to stay up to date on the latest trends and share your work.

In addition to Twitter, Reddit is another good platform for writers to use when they aren’t sure what to write about.

Reddit is also helpful for figuring out trending and hot topics by following different groups based on your interests and industry.

I like to be part of groups on Reddit for Social Media Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Self-Improvement and it’s always interesting to know the discussions that are being had around those particular niches.

Another platform for writers to make use of to get ideas for articles or content is Answer the Public and Exploding Topics. Though there is a limit to what you can do with the free version, these platforms can still be helpful to writers.

In Answer the Public, you can put in topics and ideas and then questions are generated for you on what to write about.

In Exploding Topics, you can figure out the main gist of what everyone’s discussing and this can influence your decision of what to write about.

AI To Provide Support in Your Drafts Before Publishing

Every writer should have Grammarly for support in their writing. Grammarly is helpful when it comes to punctuation, sentence flow and structure. Also, their suggestions can help to make your writing better.

Then, there is AI to help in the writing process. Gemini which was formerly known as Bard can be a helpful tool for writers in the revision of their draft.

Also, using ChatGPT can be helpful for creatives in coming up with content ideas, generating content and also topics for what to write about.

AI is helpful but you should still tread with caution. There are some issues when it comes to accuracy and challenges with the malfunctioning of ChatGPT.

That’s why it would be beneficial that writers don’t depend on ChatGPT completely for their work but they use it as additional support after coming up with their blog posts, articles and doing thorough research.

Apps to Help You in Your Productivity in Writing & Sharing

Notion helps in setting goals, habits and daily tasks. Notion can also be helpful when planning out your month and what you aim to achieve.

Notion is great if you like to visually see what you plan to do.

I find that when you plan out your days and weeks, it helps you to stay more focused on your priorities.

Also, for writers and creatives who want to share their work, scheduling your content ahead of time can help you to be more productive when you yourself occupied with other things during the day.

When it comes to scheduling and social media management, there’s Buffer, Later and Hootsuite which are all very effective for scheduling content and social media management.

I’ve used Hootsuite and Buffer when I was more active on social media platforms like Instagram and also in managing companies social media pages.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve ever found yourself staring at a blank document and wanting the perfect words to appear, know there is hope.

There are tools to help you overcome writer’s block, ignite your creativity and navigate the path from idea to published work.

The positive side of technology offers a wealth of platforms, apps and AI specifically designed to aid writers in their journey.
