Kindness takes shape in many different forms. It could be nice words shared with someone to let them know they are appreciated. It could be empathy when someone is going through a difficult moment. It could also be going out of your way to help someone in need.

Some of my favorite moments of kindness are the nice words left on a Post-it note by a teacher appreciating my writing. I also love simple cards from family members when celebrating a new age and having their support and presence when needed.

Kindness manifests itself in many different forms and it is needed in life. It is needed to counteract bullying, promote positivity, connection and get through the most difficult moments in life.

Here are six simple ways to spread more kindness into the world.

1. Be Kind To Yourself

Before learning how to be kind to others, you should begin to be kind to yourself.

Be kind to yourself by speaking to yourself nicely. That’s having positive thoughts to affirm yourself and your path. That’s being good to you by doing things that fill your days with light, joy and positivity.

It’s also slowing down, taking life easy and appreciating yourself for your path and your journey.

2. Treat Others the Way You Want to Be Treated

If you appreciate it when others are good to you, you should be good to others as well. If you value kind and nice words, then you should use kind and nice words to others.

You can bring more kindness into the world by treating others the same way you would want to be treated.

3. Let Someone Know You Appreciate Them

Gratitude is always needed and one way to be more kind in this world is to be grateful. You can write about what you’re grateful for in a gratitude journal and it’s even better to let the people around you know you appreciate them.

When someone does something nice for you, don’t take it for granted. Instead, let them know you appreciate them. Appreciating people is important in life and one way to do this is to let others know how the things they do matter to you. Always be willing to thank people.

4. Be Empathetic Towards Those Around You

“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always”- Brad Meltzer

Another way to show kindness to others is to be empathetic towards the needs of those around you. You do this by putting yourself in someone else’s shoes because you never really know what anyone else is going through. This is why you should not be so hard on others. This is why you have to be understanding.

When you empathize with the needs of those around you, you can be more kind. Also, people feel safer and more seen when you are more empathetic.

5. Be Willing to Say You’re Sorry & Admit When You’re Wrong

Growing up, I used to think I was always right but the truth is that there are many things I’ve been wrong about.

To be kind, you must admit when you are wrong and apologize when needed. This is not easy because we sometimes carry a lot of pride in us. We don’t want to admit we are wrong and we don’t want to say sorry when we should.

But kindness is also letting others know you’re sorry. Kindness is also letting others know you’ve made mistakes and it’s okay. It’s letting others know where you fall short because when you can admit your shortcomings, you give others the grace to be human too.

6. Do Something Nice for A Stranger Just Because

It’s great to show kindness and appreciation to those you know, such as family members and friends, but what about strangers? You should also show kindness to strangers.

There are many ways you can show kindness to strangers. First, you can make someone’s day by providing them with a gift. Then, you can choose to volunteer at a charity or a non-profit. In addition, you can donate to a cause you care about. Extend an act of kindness to a stranger without expecting anything back.

This act of kindness is important because it lifts others up and when you extend kindness to others, you do your part by making the world a better place.

In Conclusion

Kindness takes shape in many forms. It can be as simple as letting those who are always there for you know how much you appreciate them. It can mean treating others nicely because you know that is the same way you’d want to be treated in return. Kindness is also being more empathetic and caring towards others when life gets hard. Kindness can also mean being willing to admit when you are wrong and giving others the grace to be human; just like yourself.

Kindness is needed in life and one of the best ways to have a more kind world is for you to be that source of kindness right now.
