The Art of Focus
Having focus in life is what separates those that are successful and those that are not. Focus is what helps you understand whether someone will get things done or not. One of the characteristics that I possess is that ability to focus. My focus is what enables me to keep moving on the path that I have been called on.
If you lack focus, here are some points to help you get and maintain it.
You Should Know Where You Are Going
You cannot have focus if you do not know where you are going. You should understand the goals and direction in which you want your life to be on.
If you do not know, take the time to consider who you want to be and the lifestyle you want to have. Then, have the goals and direction always in your mind. Continue to keep the dream alive by having your eyes on the prize.
Stay In Your Lane
What interrupts our focus in life is that too often, we compare our path and journey to others. You compare your achievements and properties. You are always wondering what other people are doing. This will leave you feeling miserable and unproductive.
Stop lurking around and understand that your journey is yours alone. Your path is unique, and it is up to you to get to where you want to be. Comparisons won’t get you far.
There are many things that can get us distracted from our path. Here are a few things to be mindful of.
-Unnecessary time spent gossiping and entertaining rumours
-Spending time with the wrong company: toxic friendships and relationships
- Spending too much time on social media and not on your goals
-Overindulging in a harmful lifestyle such as excessive drinking, partying etc
Always Seek Inspiration
At times in life, we can feel tired. We can feel discouraged. This affects your ability to focus on your goals. That is why you must always seek inspiration.
There are several ways to find inspiration. You can find inspiration in books, videos, good conversation or a new adventure.
Know When to Detach from Others
It is important to have good company and associations. However, at times, in other to get things done, you need to detach.
You must be able to dedicate time for your goals and projects. This will require some level of detachment from others.
Learn to Move in Silence
At times, it is better to not let everyone in on what you expect to do. Some people carry a negative and jealous spirit. If you share your plans with such people, they might attempt to stop and sabotage your efforts. They might also try to discourage you out of their own insecurities.
Sometimes, you simply need to get things done first and then let the world know what you were working on.
Be Patient with the Process
Having focus is one thing. Having patience is another thing. Focus and patience must go hand in hand. If you are not patient with your process, you would easily quit and walk away from your dreams.
You need to be realistic in understanding that in life, things do not happen immediately. It takes time. You must be okay with that.
Appreciate the Journey
Being focused does not mean that you do not take time to appreciate your journey. Yes, you should always be aware of the vision and goals. However, you fuel your energy and focus by enjoying every step of your path. You celebrate your wins.
